Toronto, Ontario (January 2, 2019) – We’re celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2019! For a century now, AdvantAge Ontario has pursued a bold and important mission: to advocate, educate and provide support for not-for-profit organizations that offer community-based senior care in our province. We are a non-profit, registered Canadian charity that represents close to 600 organizations serving more than 45,000 seniors annually.
What we’re celebrating
AdvantAge Ontario is the only provincial organization representing the full spectrum of community-based seniors’ care, including long term care, retirement and supportive housing, life-lease housing, social housing and community services.
Our member organizations are developed by local people, for local people. Evidence shows that non-profit care is the best care for seniors. Our members put residents first, reinvest any surpluses back into care, are deeply committed to quality and innovation, and have strong local accountability and community support. For 100 years, we have worked hard to keep these values at the centre of Ontario’s senior care strategy.
A short history
In 1919, a small group of committed individuals, fueled by a desire to improve care for seniors, came together to form the Association of Managers of the Homes for Aged and Infirm. Since then, the Association has been deeply engaged in improving care for Ontario’s seniors. In 2018, we rebranded our Association to reflect our evolving mandate. How we’re celebrating
Starting this month, we’re celebrating our members’ achievements with a host of activities culminating in our annual Convention this spring. Some of our plans include the following:
Centenarian Stories:We’re collecting original member videos featuring Ontario centenarians to showcase our member homes and the quality care they provide. We’ll share these on our 100th anniversary website.
Student Volunteers Contest: Young people from member homes can submit an original video showcasing their contributions and highlighting the senior care sector as an interesting and fulfilling career path. The best will win a $1,000 prize.
Member Showcase: Our members are helping us spread the good news about not-for-profit senior care by sharing uplifting stories about their people, programs, and services. We’ll be publishing all of these on our 100th anniversary website.
Additional activities are planned throughout the year, with the big celebration taking place at our annual Convention from May 6-8 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. More details on our Convention are coming soon.
The title sponsor of our 100th anniversary celebration is long-standing commercial member Complete Purchasing Services.
