Re: Long-term care homes want end to mandatory inspections (January 4, 2019)

I wish to set the record straight. Friday’s article on long term care indicated that AdvantAge Ontario, representing close to 400 community-based, non-profit long term care homes and seniors’ housing and community services, wants an end to ministry annual inspections of long term care homes. That is not correct.

We support inspections as one important element in provincial oversight of some our province’s most vulnerable citizens. In order to safeguard residents in long term care, we are calling for a reduction in red tape and modernization of the long term care system in this province accompanied by more funding for staffing. This includes an inspection system where homes can receive important support and advice from ministry inspectors. Our top priority is the best possible resident care.
