Statement on Government’s Call for New LTC Development Proposals

October 21, 2021

AdvantAge Ontario released the following statement on the Ontario government’s call for new long-term care development proposals.

"AdvantAge Ontario is pleased with the news yesterday from the Minister of Long-Term Care Rod Phillips that government has opened applications for a tranche of 10,000 long-term care beds. These beds are badly needed and will help thousands of seniors get the care they need.

Within the long-term care sector, not-for-profit homes are the closest aligned to Canadians’ belief in public health care. That’s why more than two-thirds of Ontarians, or 68 per cent, list not-for-profit, municipally-owned and charitable homes as their first choice for care. We strongly encourage the provincial government to reflect that choice when they decide whether to allocate any of those 10,000 new beds to for-profit operators.”
