Our Advocacy
AdvantAge Ontario is the voice of not-for-profit seniors’ care in Ontario
As the only provincial association that represents the full spectrum of the seniors’ care continuum in Ontario, AdvantAge Ontario leverages the expertise of its membership to advocate on key issues facing seniors, their health care providers, and the care settings they call home.
What happens when you invest every dollar into expanding the care and services offered to seniors and improving your homes?
- Over 20% more hours of direct daily care per resident
- Lower staff turnover
- Lower rates of hospitalization
- Newer homes with community and culturally specific amenities
- Better control of infection and disease
This is why the vast majority of Ontarians waiting for a spot in long-term care (LTC) have listed a not-for-profit, municipal or charitable home as their first choice. Nearly 48,600 seniors are waiting for a bed in one of these special homes.
This overwhelming demand makes it clear. As we recover and rebuild after the tragedies of the pandemic, Ontario needs more not-for-profit long-term care homes to give our seniors the care, comfort and safety they deserve.

Stability, Quality, Capacity: Building a Stronger Seniors’ Care System
Over the last several budgets, the Ontario government has continued to increase funding towards seniors’ care to address the deep systemic challenges that resulted from years of underinvestment.
To sustain and protect the gains made in recent years, and to position the sector to respond to the anticipated rise in the number of seniors requiring complex care over the near term, there is an urgent need for additional action. AdvantAge Ontario recommends targeted investments in three key areas. Read our Pre-Budget Submission below to learn more.
